As Lok Sabha elections 2019 is nearing, all non-BJP parties are joining forces to stop Narendra Modi. In the soon to be formed maha-Ghatbandhan, former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda’s name is doing the rounds as the PM Candidate.

Deve Gowda served as the Prime Minister for 11 months with the help of all regional parties and support from Congress. Later Congress withdrew support and eventually, Deve Gowda had to step down.

In the soon to be formed third front, other leaders may have an agreement. SP won’t accept Mayawati, and Mamata Banerjee’s dream may be opposed by TDP's Chandrababu Naidu. Here, Deve Gowda becomes the most accepted choice.

As AICC president Rahul Gandhi hinted that he may not be the PM candidate from opposition, he also affirmed that he is ready to sacrifice anything to stop BJP from coming to power again. In this process, will Deve Gowda become accidental PM again after 22 years? This is the question doing the rounds in political corridors.

During HD Kumaraswamy’s oath-taking ceremony as Karnataka CM, all regional parties were united here in Bengaluru under Deve Gowda’s leadership.

In 1996, BJP was the largest party with 161 seats. Congress had 140, Janata Dal 46, Left parties 44 and other regional parties got 100 seats. And to stop BJP, all the other parties including Congress and Left joined hands, and Deve Gowda became PM.
