Sniffer dogs laid off after cannabis legalisation
At least 14 drug-detecting dogs have been forced into early retirement from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police after Canada legalised cannabis use throughout the country. Authorities say a new cohort of dogs will need to be trained, but cannabis will be kept off the list of drugs that need to be detected.
Worker slept on the job for four years
An unnamed female worker at the California department of motor vehicles spent about three hours of her working day asleep for nearly four years, according to an internal audit. Investigators say the woman, who still works at the DMV, snoozed through more than 2,200 hours of work, costing taxpayers more than $40,000.
