Indore: Health services in Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital and other associated hospitals of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College remained affected as strike of junior doctors, paramedical and nursing staff entered third day on Wednesday.
Under graduate medical students lent support to junior doctors and staged demonstration at college’s entrance while raising slogans against the government. Enraged by the expulsion of five junior doctors in the college, Junior Doctors’ Association said members will intensify agitation.
Talking to mediapersons, JDA office bearer Dr Abhishek Singh said government projected their agitation in a wrong way as stipend was their last demand while safety of patients, doctors and better facilities were a primary concern. He said junior doctors will not end strike as government has been taking one-sided action against them by imposing ESMA and rusticating junior doctors.
When told about MP High Court order directing junior doctors to return to work, Dr Singh said that they have not received copy of the order. Sanyukta Morcha Swasthya Karmachari Sangathan, an umbrella body of paramedical staff, technicians and nursing staff, also staged demonstration against government at hospital’s gate.
On Wednesday, medical education department asked MGM Medical College dean Dr Sharad Thora to send names of leaders of demonstrators so that action can be taken against them. Meanwhile, hospital administration stopped admitting patients except those who need urgent treatment.
