- Mumbai: BSE Sensex hit the 37,000-mark for the first time on Thursday and NSE’s Nifty 50 also touched an all-time high driven by optimism that earnings growth will pick up further because of favourable government policies. In intraday trade, BSE Sensex rose 203.39 points to a fresh record high of 37,061.62, while the Nifty 50 gained 53.85 points to all time high of 11,185.85. DIIs bought shares worth Rs 97.64 crore on net basis on Wednesday, while foreign investors sold shares worth Rs 1,195.75 crore, provisional data showed. Moreover, Asian stocks moved higher after President Donald Trump agreed with the European Commission chief to suspend new tariffs while continuing to negotiate over trade. Brent crude led oil prices higher, extending gains into a third day. The Indian rupee strengthened marginally against US dollar tracking gains in local equities and Asian currencies.
