Most common email phishing subject lines revealed

Most of us here might be having a good idea of what ‘phishing’ is or have some idea about it. But then some are still there who are clueless about it and do get into its grip. A fresh report that has been published by KnowBe4 talks exactly about it and reveals out some of the most successful Phishing email subject lines that would make you click on it if you’re not careful.
The report says that some of the top social media subject emails that are actually Phishing emails are related to LinkedIn. Majority of the subjects lines begin from Add me, Join Network, Reset Password, New Message among others. LinkedIn-related subject mails comprise about 53% of all the top social media email subjects.
Surprisingly, 19% of the phishing emails are in relation to Motorola for the login alert, while 12% are alerts for a tagged photo. 8% each of the phishing mails have ‘free pizza’ and ‘New Voice Message’ in subjects.
The report also termed that one of the popular email subjects that are actually phishingemails is ‘A delivery attempt was made’. The second most common subject was ‘UPS label delivery 1ZBE312TNY00015011’
Since phishing is something that has not yet been wiped off from the face of the internet, big tech firms are making extra efforts to keep it at bay. One of them is Google. The search giant has a simple USB device to keep its 85,000 plus employees safe from phishing, according to a report by Krebs on Security blog.
The first step involves the employee to provide the login credentials. Then he/she receives an OTP on their mobile through an exclusive app and the final step involves inserting the USB security key-which looks like a pen drive- into the USB port and then pressing a button on the security key to finally access the tool or service.
USB security keys cost between Rs 5,000 and Rs 7,000 in India and are available on e-commerce websites like Flipkart or Amazon.
