BHUBANESWAR: A pall of gloom descended upon the state capital after two Class IX students of Unit-9 Boys' High School drowned while bathing in the flooded Kuakhai river on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday.
Mancheswar police said the boys, Jagamohan Sahoo and Sophik Diggal, both 14 years of age along with their classmates Aman Sahoo, Debasis Rout, Trilochan Nayak and Rakesh Nayak had reportedly bunked classes and gone to the river around 10.20 am. Barring Debasis and Trilochan, the other four students plunged into the river from where the fire service personnel had rescued a woman, who attempted suicide on Monday. While Jagamohan and Sophik were swept away by the strong current, Aman and Rakesh were rescued by fishermen.
