Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Tuesday seized 1,100 grams of crude gold from two passengers - Muhammed Aleef (28) of Malappuram, Kerala, and Ansari (38) of Chennai - who arrived at Coimbatore International Airport from Colombo by Sri Lankan Airlines. They had concealed 20 rectangular pieces of gold in an electric iron and a television and were intercepted based on intelligence gathered by the officials. The gold recovered was 24 carat pure and the total value is estimated to be ₹34.10 lakh. The cover cargo of the electric iron and three large-sized Sony Bravia model televisions were also seized.
