4-day Tejaswini haat to be held

A four-day Tejaswini haat will be organized at DB City Mall, Bhopal by the Women’s Finance and Development Corporation from July 27. Commodities produced and manufactured by women self-help groups will be displayed and sold in the haat.

In the main attraction that will be available on display and for sale at the haat produced and manufactured by women belonging to self-help groups include organic agriculture products, unique samples of handmade art, Kodi-Kutki Kadann, Kathiya wheat dalia, Shriram rice, Rai-Ramtil Oil and Sarson ki kachhi dhani, Jam-Jelly, pickles, murabba and Badi-Papad. Kodi-Kutki Kadann help to strengthen digestive system as it is gluten-free and rich in fibre and also help in effectively controlling diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol besides reducing weight.

Kathiya wheat dalia is high in Vitamin ‘A’, Beta-Carotene and Gluten and helps in increasing resistance to diseases as it is rich in iron, zinc and fibre. Unpolished pulses besides the famous Shriram rice of Balaghat will be available in the haat. Other attractions that will be available at the haat include handloom mats of Chhatarpur district foot mats and Panna jackets besides other commodities.

The objective of the Tejaswini programme is to make the rural women strong and self-reliant. The Programme run with this objective has been awarded with the Smart Governance Skoch Award 2015, Sitaram Rao Livelihood Award 2014 and Skoch Award 2014 for Shaurya Dal. In Year 2017, it has also obtained the honour of participation in the 61st session of United Nations Organisation in New York by President of Tejaswini Nari Chetana Mahila Sangh Rekha Pandram.

The Tejaswini Rural Women Empowerment Programme is being implemented in six districts of Madhya Pradesh including Chhatarpur, Panna, Tikamgarh, Mandla, Dindori and Balaghat with the support of IFAD by the Women’s Finance and Development Corporation. The programme aims at strengthening rural women financial, social and political level. Under the Tejaswini programme, 2.07 lakh women are engaged in various livelihood activities through 16,737 self-help groups.

These women from various self-help groups have participated in the Rural Women’s Haat on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8 earlier also in Bhopal. While on the one hand, rural women got the experience of selling their products in a big market in a mall, people of the city also got the opportunity to see and purchase desi, pure organic and handmade commodities from villages at the haat. People have not only appreciated the haat but also demanded to organize more such haats. Following demand, the Tejaswini haat is being organized in DB City mall once again.
