KOVVURU (WEST GODAVARI): Chief minister N
Chandrababu Naidu said on Thursday said that he had taken the right turn on the special category status issue and not a U-turn as being alleged by the
BJP at the Centre and the YSR Congress in the state.
Addressing a gathering during his visit to the district as part of the Grama Darshini programme, Naidu said that both the Congress and the BJP have betrayed the people of
Andhra Pradesh in the name of bifurcation.
“While the Congress had done injustice to the people during bifurcation, the BJP had betrayed the people after the bifurcation,” he said.
Naidu discounted the allegation that he had changed his stand on the special category status demand and said that he opted for the special package only because of the BJP leaders who misled him.
“I realised the conspiracy and took the right decision. The BJP is now continuing its injustice to the state with the support of YSR Congress. Be vigilant and defeat them in the next elections,” he said.
The chief minister said that the entire nation is with the AP and TDP in the fight against the BJP. He recalled how the TDP had fought against the BJP in the Lok Sabha with no confidence motion. He said several national and regional parties have supported the TDP in the fight and wanted the people too to support it in the next election.
Naidu appealed to the people to support him in the fight against the BJP and YSR Congress.
“Let us decided the next Prime Minister. By winning 25 MPs from the State, the TDP will decide who will be the Prime Minister and who promises special category status and other benefits to the State,” he asserted.
Naidu said that he had developed the state as one of the best states in the last four years despite the revenue deficit and non-cooperation from the Central government. He also explained how he had implemented various welfare initiatives including loan waiver, housing, pension, cement concrete roads and creating employment opportunities by getting global investment to the state. Naidu emphasised the need to continue this development for the next two decades without any disturbance.
The chief minister also announced that he would take steps to change the name of Kovvur town as Govuru (village of cows) following the request from local MLA and minister for excise, KS Jawahar.
Naidu directed the officials to change the name of the town officially as desired by the local people. The minister thanked the chief minister for announcing the change of the name of the town.
