Nagpur: Four months after a woman died in an accident after the bike on which she was a pillion rammed into chopped tree stump, cops have booked officials of Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) garden department and
contractor for death due to negligence.
On March 4, Sadhana Puradbhat, 53, was riding as a pillion on her husband’s bike. They were returning home in Indraprasth Nagar after having dinner at Akashwani Chowk when the bike rammed into a tree stump jutting out of the road in front of the district and sessions court. Sadhana fell from the bike and was grievously injured. She later succumbed to the injuries. Sitabuldi police had then registered a case of accidental death. However, during investigation it was revealed that due to negligence of NMC officials and contractor the woman had died.
Cops said, it was NMC and contractor’s job to remove the leftover tree from the road which they did not. This resulted in the loss of life, police said.
Names of NMC officials are yet to be confirmed by the cops.
Waking up from the slumber after the death, the NMC had removed the tree stump from the road.
