CAIT opposes deal between Walmart and Flipkart

more-in

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Tuesday demanded that the Centre stop the Walmart-Flipkart deal saying it would encourage predatory pricing and benefit only investors and promoters.

The CAIT made the demand at its ongoing national conclave here on Tuesday. The traders’ union also demanded that the government form a policy for e-commerce and constitute a regulatory authority for such businesses. It said that till the time this is done, the deal should be put in abeyance.

Movement against deal

A press release by the CAIT said that the conclave, being attended by 1,500 trade leaders, had decided to launch a nationwide movement against the deal.

B. C Bhartia, Confederation of All India Traders national president, said: “In the absence of any e-commerce policy and regulatory mechanism, predatory pricing and deep discounts practices in e-commerce will be encouraged. Only the venture capitalist, investors and promoters will be benefited, and not the country.”
