VISAKHAPATNAM: The Indian Institute of Management at
Visakhapatnam - the only one in the two Telugu states, would begin its doctoral programme- Fellow Programme in Management (FPM), from next academic year with five seats.
The IIM-Vizag could be the first one among the newest set of IIMs - also known as the third generation of the IIMs set up in 2015 - to begin the inter-disciplinary research programme.
On Monday, the premier B School has inducted 105 students as its fourth batch of its flagship Post Graduate Programme in Management.
"We have received the approval of the ministry of HRD to begin our FPM programme. We plan to have an intake of five researchers annually," M Chandrasekhar, director, IIM-V told ToI.
The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is equivalent to Ph.D. and is a full time, residential doctoral programme which is already offered by the older IIMs like Bangalore, which is by the way the mentor institute of IIIM-Vizag.
The FPM at the IIMs is "globally recognized and is considered as a premier source of rigorous, inter-disciplinary research in all areas of business management." Typically, FPM students would specialise in one of the areas like finance & accounting, marketing, entrepreneurship, management, organizational behaviour & human resources public policy, strategy.
"For the FPM programme, we need well experienced faculty whom we plan to gain in due course. We would take the help of our mentor IIM Bangalore in FPM for the initial years," Chadrasekhar tells ToI on the side-lines of the PGP induction event.

Professor Rajendra Bandi, chairperson, IIM-V admissions and who is a teaching at IIM Bangalore for 20 years now.
The IIM-V which is helped by the IIM-B in admission process too is planning to manage its admissions on its own from next year with some guidance from the supporter institute.
The academic activities of the IIM-V are at present run from the Andhra Bank School of Business building of the
Andhra University, while accommodation for the students is provided at two private hostels in the city.
The institute is planning to move into its own campus to come up at Gambheeram near the city by the beginning of the 2021 academic year.
IIMV has recorded 100 per cent placements for its 2016-18 PGP batch, with the average salary of the top quartile offers at Rs 16.3 lakh per annum.
