FALL RIVER – A national champion AAU team from the Boston Amateur Athletic Club is scheduled to play in the marquee game of the fifth annual Herren Shootout basketball tournament Friday and Saturday, Aug. 3-4, at the Thomas Chew Memorial Boys and Girls Club.

The BABC’s 16U national championship team will square off against the Herren All Stars, consisting of top players from southeastern Massachusetts, in the final game of the night on Friday, Aug. 3.

The slate of games on Friday starts at 6 p.m. and includes a local eighth-grade girls’ game, an eighth-grade AAU game, Durfee High vs. Bridgewater and then BABC vs. The Herrens.

On Saturday, when the schedule starts at noon, the lineup includes some grade school/middle school action and then a series of high school rivalries, including Durfee vs. Somerset, Tiverton vs. Portsmouth, Greater New Bedford vs. Fairhaven, and then what should be an ultra-intense game between rivals New Bedford and Wareham (7 p.m.).

Among those scheduled to play for The Herrens are Swansea’s Drew Plante, the Herald News 2018 Player of the Year and freshman at Worcester Polytechnical Institute; former Tiverton High standout and current Tabor Academy player Tyler Murray; Tabor’s Mike Perry, the former Bishop Feehan standout. Coach Mike Torres said he is also hoping to have Wareham standout Dom Mello on the roster.

Brothers Brandon Kollek (bound for Division 2 Franklin Pierce) and Tyler Kollek (Division 1 prospect) are also on the Herren All Stars. They are the sons of former UMass Dartmouth standout Kevin Kollek.

Tourney founder and director Mike Herren said while he would like to once again have his nephew, Boston College freshman Chris Herren, in the Herren All Stars lineup, that is far from set. Mike Herren said he is waiting to hear from Chris Herren’s compliance officer at BC. Chris Herren this summer has been practicing with the Eagles.

Mike Herren said the BABC team includes nine signed Division 1 players.

Chris Herren’s younger brother, fourth-grader Drew Herren, is scheduled to play on Saturday.
