Mob thrashes Muslim man at Ghaziabad court over interfaith marriage

The man was attacked while the two were discussing the procedure at the marriage registrar office. A video of the attack has gone viral on social media.

NEW DELHI: A Muslim man was beaten by a group of people on Monday at a Ghaziabad court where he had gone to marry a Hindu woman, police said.

Sahil from Bhopal and the woman Preeti Singh, from Bijnore in Western UP had reached the Ghaziabad court on Monday afternoon and the man was attacked while the two were discussing the procedure at the marriage registrar office. A video of the attack has gone viral on social media.

A first information report was registered against unknown people under IPC section 147 (rioting), 323 (causing hurt) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) at Sihani Gate police station.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of Sihani Gate police station said the assault on the premises of the court was reported around 3.30 pm on July 23. "On being informed about the attack, the police in-charge in the area rushed to the spot. He brought the couple to the police station here. The two were reluctant to register a complaint, following which, the police in-charge filed a complaint against unknown persons under his own complaint," the SHO said.
