BHOPAL: Former chief minister and
Rajya Sabha MP
Digvijaya Singh will court arrest before the TT Nagar police station here in the state capital on Wednesday afternoon. State Congress media committee chairman Manak Agarwal said that Digvijaya Singh along with Congress workers will leave PCC headquarters for TT Nagar police station at 12 noon. The veteran Congress leader is courting arrest after chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan allegedly called him a “traitor”.
Last week while on the Jan Ashirwad Yatra in
Satna district, chief minister Chouhan while talking to reporters said, “Digvijaya Singh behaves like a traitor. He is depressed and many times speaks in support of terrorists while attacking our culture and tradition.”
Next day, Digvijaya Singh retaliated with a letter to Chouhan in which he wrote, “For the unity and integrity of the nation, I have decided to surrender before the law.” He further wrote, “You have accused me of being a traitor. You are the chief minister and it is your constitutional responsibility to keep the nation’s unity and integrity safe within the borders of this state. If in your knowledge there is any such anti-national attempt, then it is your duty to undertake administrative and legal proceedings.”
He challenged Chouhan to provide evidence of his being an anti-national, file a case against him and ask police and administration to take necessary legal action including the arrest. However, the former chief minister also said that if Chouhan had no evidence of Digvijaya Singh being a traitor then he should, “apologise publicly, unconditionally and without delay.”
Singh also attacked chief minister Chouhan on twitter. On Monday, he launched a scathing attack on Shivraj Singh Chouhan and the BJP through his twitter account @digvijaya_28. He tweeted photographs of former BJP worker and accused ISI operative Dhruv Saxena with the chief minister and party national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya.
In February 2017, Saxena – the BJP’s former
Bhopal district IT cell coordinator – was arrested along with ten others for suspected espionage activities. Digvijaya Singh while posting the photographs tweeted, “Standing on Shivrajji’s dais is Dhruv Saxena, the person who sent secret information to ISI. Who is the traitor? Shivrajji, what happened to that case in which your party workers worked for the ISI in exchange for money?”
