NEW DELHI: Nine “Munna Bhais”, appearing as dummy candidates for recruitment in the Indian Army, have been arrested after they were identified by the officials during a physical test being conducted at Central Ordnance Depot in Delhi Cantonment.

The candidates, for whom the imposters were appearing, had cleared the other tests required for the examination but were sceptical about the physical exam.

The imposters have been identified as Kehar Singh, Sheelesh, Avnish Kumar, Ramavtar, Sonu, Deepak, Sandeep Kumar, Naval Kishor and Bantu. Seven of them belong to Firozabad district in Uttar Pradash while two are from Agra and Jind, respectively.

DCP (west) Vijay Kumar said an FIR was registered under sections of impersonation and cheating. “Investigation is on to ascertain if there are more people involved in the racket,” he said.

The con was spotted on Wednesday when the physical examination was being held for the candidates who had cleared the written test for the post of tradesman in the depot.

The invigilators, while checking the documents of the candidates, found that nine people appearing in the physical test are different than those who had sat in the written examination.

The dummy candidates were interviewed and during cross-questioning, confessed that they are appearing for someone else’s behalf. The army officials then handed over the dummy candidates to the police with a written complaint.
