HYDERABAD: A one-day training session on cyber security and cybercrime investigation' was conducted for the Rachakonda law and order police officers on Wednesday.

Mahesh M Bhagwat, commissioner of police, Rachakonda inaugurated the training session and stated that after demonetisation, there has been a substantial rise in reporting of cyber crimes, which is alarming.

"The fraudsters are targeting innocent middle-class people and looting through banking and other finance-related frauds. It has become a major challenge for us. The common man is easily getting cheated by the fraudsters after they share his credentials like OTPs, date of birth, credit/debit card numbers etc over the phone," said Bhagwat.

He further added saying that the offender pretending to be a bank official speaks in Hindi or English over the phone, while the victim blindly believes them to be genuine and shares all vital information and thus gets cheated and loses all hard earned money.

"As you people are the field officers and you have to know the seriousness of the cybercrime and its depth, no officer should send back a complainant citing inability in dealing a cyber crime complaint. In case any technical assistance is needed, the officer can contact the cyber crimes police station and direct the victim there for quick redressal. As we have only four police stations in Telangana state and too much dependency on them, it is imminent that every officer should utilize this training programme and solve the reported crimes at their end," said Bhagwat.

Harinath, ACP, cyber crimes, Rachakonda, Sunny S from VATINS Security Systems and Prasad Patibandla, Faculty of Central Detective Training Institute delivered lectures on cyber security, mobile forensics to train the police officers.
