Cong seeks more Central funds for ‘Justice’ in Gujarat

Congress leaders Kailash Gadhvi, PK Valera and Dr Anil Joshiyara made the representation on party's behalf and submitted a seven-point agenda.

Congress said Gujarat is backward compared to other States when it comes to backlog of legal cases. Party spokesperson Kailash Gadhvi said: "It is a shameful fact that Gujarat will need 287 years to clear the backlog of legal cases at the current rate of disposal. Poor infrastructure, insufficient staff, technological impairment are some of the main reasons for the sorry state of affairs. States like Odisha and Rajasthan, on the other hand, will need only 42 and 12 years respectively to clear the backlog of cases. We have demanded a special package for Gujarat for the next five years so that justice can be delivered."

Congress sought higher allocation of central funds towards education, facility to farmers for cash crops, environment, SC-ST upliftment, coastal development and health infrastructure. "All these areas can get additional funds with the Centre agrees to share 52% of tax revenues," Gadhvi said.
