The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has denied bail to ‘Burma’ Pandi and his accomplices who were held on the charges of kidnap and gang rape of a minor girl in Sivaganga district.

Justice G.R. Swaminathan denied bail to the petitioners and directed compensation to the victim under the Victim Compensation Fund. A sum of ₹ 3 lakh was ordered to be paid by the Collector as compensation to the victim. The court said ₹25,000 should be paid immediately to the victim’s mother. The remaining sum should be deposited with a nationalised bank for the use of the victim.

Burma Pandi, who recently served detention under the Goondas Act, was held by Sivaganga police along with his accomplices for the kidnap and rape of a 16-year-old girl in Peranipatti. The girl was abducted from her house by the gang and sexually assaulted in an isolated place. The gang dropped the girl back before fleeing. The victim’s mother lodged a complaint with the All Women Police Station.

The accused were secured by special teams and remanded in judicial custody under Sections 366 (a) (Procuration of minor girl), 376 (Rape) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 5 G and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
