Four people have died of cholera in Punjab's Hoshiarpur district in the past few days, the district epidemiologist said today.
According to District Epidemiologist Shailesh, over 327 patients suffering from diarrhea and dehydration have been admitted to the civil hospital here for treatment.
Vishakha (12), a resident of Fatehgarh, died of the waterborne disease today, raising the death toll to four.
Earlier, two women and a man lost their lives due to the disease.
After the Health Department took 20 water samples from several parts of the city, it was found that the mixing of sewage in the water supply caused contamination of drinking water that led to spread of the disease, Shailesh said.
The municipal authorities have been asked to supply chlorinated water through water tankers in the affected areas.
