Akshay Kumar plays a Bengali hockey player in Gold.

The makers of Gold have released a new song titled, Ghar Layenge Gold, and it has Akshay Kumar bringing together a hockey team that could win the Olympics. Voiced by Daler Mehndi and composed by Sachin-Jigar, the song has high pitched vocals typically associated with patriotic songs.

Written by Javed Akhtar, the song shows how Akshay, who is playing a Bengali hockey player in the film, is meeting players from all parts of India and asking them to play for the national team. Actually, Gold is the story of a Bengali hockey player who wants to represent independent India at the World Cup. It’s his dream, but it’s almost impossible to fulfil it.

Directed by Reema Kagti, who has earlier directed Talaash, the film explores what it meant to be a patriotic player in the pre-independence era. The film also marks the Bollywood debut of TV actor Mouni Roy.

It was earlier reported that Gold is a biopic of former hockey player Balbir Singh Sr. In an interview, producer Ritesh Sidhwani denied the claim. He said, “It is not a biopic. It is a completely fictional story but it is set against a real backdrop between 1933-48 India about what the country was, the sports... about hockey. It is not based on any character.”

Gold is scheduled to hit the screens on August 15, 2018.
