Supplyco’s Onam mela will begin on August 10, while the taluk-level melas will start on August 16.
Onam markets at the Assembly-constituency level, mini fairs, and mini special fairs in panchayats will begin on August 20. All fairs will be open till August 24 night. M.S. Jaya, Chief Managing Director of Supplyco, said in a communication that the fairs would help in checking the spike in prices of essential commodities during the festival season. There will be 14 district-level fairs and 75 taluk-level initiatives.
As many as 78 fairs will be held close to Supplyco outlets in each Assembly constituency. Special mini fairs will be held in 23 panchayats with no Supplyco outlets under them. Supplyco Onam fairs will be active at 1,479 places across the State.
At the district-level fairs, consumers can buy vegetables and fruits from stalls set up by Horticorp and Vegetable and Fruits Promotion Council. Hantex, Hanveev, Matsyafed, Meat Products of India, Coirfed, Vanashree, and institutions under the Industries Department and Women’s Development Corporation will open counters at the district-level fairs.
Food courts offering special payasams will also function at the fairs. Supplyco will offer prizes to consumers as part of the festival.
Onam gift voucher and special kits, which can be used by employees of public and private sector institutions, will also be available. The fairs will be open from 9.30 a.m to 8 p.m.
