GURUGRAM: The MCG has earmarked 15 new spots for dumping
construction and demolition (C&D)
waste across the city. Anyone found dumping construction waste at other spots than these designated sites will now face action.
The designated spots are: Jail road near Patwar house, Auto industrial area, Beri Chowk near mini secretariat, Udyog Vihar, Sector 22 near Ganpati financial services, Sector 21 near Chippi colony, Vyapar Sadan Mehrauli road, Intersection of Sunset Blvd and Golf Course Road, Sector 53 near Tau Devi Lal Biodiversity park, Wazirabad village in Sector 52, Sector 44, Sector 32, Mohyal colony, Sector 39, Sector 57, Nirvana central road and Sector 50.
“These spots will act as collection points from where the waste will be taken to the C&D waste treatment plant,” Yashpal Yadav, MCG commissioner, said.
He also said people who violate these rules will face action and FIRs will be registered against those who are found guilty.
Construction and demolition waste is a big challenge for the city which sees rampant construction activities. On an average, Guugram generates around 350-400 tonnes of construction waste on a daily basis. The delay in setting up of construction and demolition plant at Basai is affecting the corporation adversely. After being stuck in litigation, the proposed plant in Basai is expected to be functional in next four to five months.
The construction waste plant, which is the first in Haryana, was announced in May 2017 with the completion deadline of 2017 end.
However, the project was delayed after a Delhi-based NGO filed a case against the project in National Green Tribunal (NGT), claiming it is proposed on a wetland, said the MCG commissioner.
The case went on till January, when NGT vacated the stay and gave a nod to the project provided that all required clearances and permissions are in place, which have been obtained, including a no-objection certificate from agencies concerned.
The total cost of the project is estimated around Rs 13 crore, and it will have a capacity of processing 500 tonnes of construction waste every day.
