Woman caught with Rs 8 lakh heroin

CHANDIGARH: Police arrested awoman residentof Dadumajra with heroin worth around Rs 8 lakh and vials of a banned drug in Sector 40 on Monday night.

Nirmala (40), who goes by the name Nimmo, was produced before the court on Tuesday and remanded in twoday police custody.

Nirmala was caught at a naka laid by a team from Maloya police station. The woman was crossing the police naka on a Honda Activa scooter when she was signaled down and found in possession of 200 grams of heroin and 30 vials of the banned drug buprenorphine. The contraband had been kept in the boot under the scooter’s seat. Police said the accused used to sell heroin between Rs 4,000 and 5,000 per gram in southern sectors .

Police said the heroin they seized was pure and the accused used to mix with other drugs to increase the quantity and make more money from drug deals. Police said Nirmala is already facing seven cases of smuggling drugs and liquor in Chandigarh.
