CHENNAI: Police on Monday arrested a woman from Arakkonam in connection with a fake job racket.

According to police, Jayakumar, who resides in a small village near Tiruttani, had been looking for a job in Chennai, particularly in the public sector.

Hearing of Jayakumar’s requirement through brokers, Moorthy from Puducherry approached Jayakumar recently and promised to get him a job with Tangedco. Moorthy claimed that he was in touch with influential people in the Tamil Nadu government.

With his wife Tirupurasundari, Moorthy convinced not only Jayakumar but also three of his relatives. They paid the couple a total of Rs 13.5 lakh. Though the couple promised to return with appointment orders in a week, there was no update.

It was only a fortnight later that Jayakumar realised that they had been conned by the couple. A police team from Tiruvallur district launched a search operation and traced Tirupurasundari, an investigating officer said. She was arrested on Monday. Police are on the look out for Moorthy and their accomplice Gugan.
