Real Madrid transfer news: Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris the No.1 target

There’s an exclusive in The Sun with its claim that Real Madrid are planning to raid White Hart Lane for Tottenham No.1 Hugo Lloris.

The paper says that the European champions are “plotting a £60m move for the goalkeeper”, who is still on a high after captaining France to World Cup glory earlier this month.

No go for De Gea

The Spanish giants currently have Keylor Navas between the sticks at the Santiago Bernabeu but his lack of consistency has been a constant worry for Real, and new coach Julen Lopetegui has apparently identified Gallic gloveman Lloris as the man to be his No.1 in the new season.

For a long time Real have been linked with Manchester United’s David De Gea, but he is off the market having recently signed a new five-year deal with the Red Devils.

Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois was also said to be an option but the Sun claims that, while he remains on Real’s shopping list, he has fallen behind Lloris. The Frenchman was a key factor in his country winning the World Cup in Russia and has become one of the world’s best since arriving at Spurs in 2012 in a £12m deal from Lyon.

Test the resolve

Real are “ready to test the resolve of Spurs and boss Mauricio Pochettino”, says the Sun, although they are aware it would take a “monster offer” to lure Lloris from the Lane given he has four years to run on his existing deal. There is a glimmer of hope, however, for Real, with sources close to the 31-year-old Lloris suggesting “he is open to a move to Spain - but would not try to force his way out of North London”.

But with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy known throughout European football as a notoriously hard-nosed negotiator, the Sun says Real would have to come up with a prodigious offer to land Lloris and suggests that Levy “would demand close to the world-record £67m Liverpool paid Roma to sign Brazilian stopper Alisson only last week”.
