CHENNAI: A man and his daughter were fatally knocked down by a tipper lorry at
Ponneri here on Tuesday morning.
Police said Kasi, 50, was riding a two-wheeler with his daughter Anandhi, 17, riding pillion. The
accident took place when he was taking her to school.
As soon as they reached Thiruayarpadi at 8am, a tipper lorry hit them from behind. The duo fell off the bike and the lorry ran over them, killing them on the spot.
A few passersby alerted police who sent the bodies to government hospital for autopsy.
Police said the tipper lorry was going towards Minjur. The driver was speeding and as a result, he may have lost control over the vehicle, said an investigating officer.
Police registered a case of causing death due to negligence and arrested lorry driver Tamilarasan, a native of Villupuram.
Kasi owned a bakery at Ponneri, while his daughter was studying in Plus Two in a government school.
