Brisbane steel yard fire burns through the night
A large steel yard fire in the Brisbane suburb of Hemmant broke out just after midnight and continues to burn into Wednesday morning.
Emergency services were called to the Anton Road address just after midnight, with five fire crews initially attending.
Crews were using specialist machinery to pull apart the burning piles of steel to attack the fire with water in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the fire was still generating smoke in the area, with residents urged to keep windows and doors closed.
Smoke was expected to impact the Gateway Motorway in the morning, but QFES scientific officers had tested air quality and found there was no toxic threat.
The fire was expected to continue burning for some time into the morning. About 10 fire crews attended throughout the night.
Paramedics were also on stand-by at the blaze with no reports of injuries.
