NEW DELHI: WhatsApp is testing a new feature, which will tag dubious links as "suspicious", in an attempt to curb fake news, reports said. This is in line with the series of steps being taken by the social media platform to curb "fake news."

The new feature of "suspicious" tags on dubious links is likely to be available on Android phones, the reports added.

The instant messaging service unveiled fresh curbs last Friday, limiting simultaneous message forwarding to five users at one go in an attempt to curb the spread of fake news. WhatsApp has been under intense pressure to put in place measures to curb fake news on its platform after a series of horrific lynchings were linked to fake news, which spread through the app.

The government last Thursday warned WhatsApp that failure to contain fake news, which has been linked to lynchings across some states, makes the platform an "abettor" in the crime, that could lead to " consequent legal action."
