The State government urged the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development to include all the districts under the POSHAN Abhiyaan (Prime Minister's Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition) scheme.
During her speech at the 2nd meeting of the National Council on India’s Nutritional Challenges in Delhi on Tuesday chaired by Union Minister of Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi, Minister for Social Welfare & Nutritious Noon Meal Programme V. Saroja noted that the scheme was implemented in 11 districts and urged to expand it to the other 21 districts.
Ariyalur, The Nilgiris, Villupuram, Dindigul and Chennai were included during Phase-I. Tirunelveli, Tiruvallur, Tiruchi, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram and Kanniyakumari were included under Phase – II, she noted.
Ms. Saroja assured that the State government would implement the programme earnestly and highlighted a few initiatives taken by the government. Principal Secretary to Government, Social Welfare & Nutritious Meal Programme Department, K. Manivasan, was present.
