NEW DELHI: Delhi Commission for Women rescued 16 girls, who were brought from Nepal and being trafficked to Gulf countries in the wee hours on Wednesday.
According to DCW chief Swati Maliwal, on a tip-off, commission's team informed the police and reached Munirka area, where the girls were confined.
On reaching the spot, they found 16 girls kept in a small room, while their passports were said to be stolen by the traffickers who brought them here on the pretext of employment.
''The 16 girls who were brought from Nepal on pretext of employment were kept here in a small room and the traffickers were in a bid to further send them to Gulf nations'', said DCW chief.
''Around 15 days ago, several girls have already been sent to Gulf by these people,'' she added.
Ms Maliwal also questioned how could the police be unaware of the racket when the location was just 500 metres away from the police station.
''Unless the accountability of the police is not strictly set, such incidents and rackets will continue,'' she said.
