The Times of India published a news revealing that the HC attached as gunman to the DC was facing criminal charges.
The Ludhiana police had prepared a list of 49 cops, from sub-inspectors to constables who were facing criminal cases. The list also included head constable Amarjit Singh, who was deployed as a guman with the deputy commissioner. Amarjit Singh was booked by Chankaya Puri police station in New Delhi on 10 January 2012 under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC.
According to information, Amarjit was then the gunman of a businessman, with whom he had gone to Delhi. After having dinner at a restaurant, the businessman’s driver indulged in a verbal spat with a restaurant employee over the bill, which resulted in a scuffle. Amarjit alleged that restaurant employees had thrashed him and the driver, after which his weapon fell down and got triggered accidentally.
Several more cops facing criminal charges, from the rank of inspector to constables, have been transferred.
