A digital czar is taking the reins at Hearst Magazines, publisher of such titles as Cosmopolitan, Esquire and Elle.

Troy Young, the 50-year-old president of Hearst Magazines Digital Media, is succeeding David Carey as president, effective immediately. The move reflects how important digital publishing, online video, social media and data have become to the publishing business as print advertising and newsstand sales decline.
