The long wait by contract employees in the Education Department seeking a fair deal, may soon end, as the government finally seems to be serious about addressing their problems.
At a review meeting held on Tuesday with officials at the Secretariat, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao asked them to procure a department-wise detailed information of the contract employees from the school to the university level and address their problems at the earliest.
Taking stock of the welfare schemes and implementation of the reforms, he enquired about distribution of uniforms and textbooks and wanted the officials to ensure timely supply of textbooks where they had not reached so far. Digital classrooms and implementation of the mid-day-meal scheme were also discussed.
School of excellence
Directing the officials to supervise allocation of internal marks and summative assessment test, the Minister said that the government was keen on developing a school of excellence and model schools in every revenue division across the State. He said efforts should be made to extend basic amenities in schools and upgrade them into model schools.
Expressing satisfaction over the increase in enrolment of students in government high schools, he said efforts should be made to replicate it in primary schools as well.
Referring to the DSC, he said the officials should provide detailed information to the Finance Department on the issues it had sought information on and seek its clearance at the earliest for recruitment of teachers to the vacant posts.
Central University
Mr. Srinivasa Rao discussed the arrangements made for inauguration of of the proposed Central University on August 5 and also asked officials to identify old buildings housing polytechnic colleges in the State and renovate or construct new structures for the same.
Special Chief Secretary, Education Department, Aditya Nath Das, Chairman of the AP State Council of Higher Education Vijaya Raju, Commissioner, Intermediate Education, Udaya Lakshmi, Commissioner of School Education K. Sandhya Rani, Commissioner for Technical Education Panda Das, and State Project Director of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan G. Srinivasulu were present.
