Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said on Wednesday that privilege notices against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman were under her consideration.
She said she had received five privilege notices against the Prime Minister and five against the Defence Minister from members of Opposition parties for allegedly misleading the House on the Rafale deal during the debate on the motion of no-confidence against the government.
She also said that four privilege notices had been received against “one person” — Congress president Rahul Gandhi — and these were also under her consideration.
The Speaker said this after Congress leaders Mallikarjuna Kharge and Jyotiraditya Scindia raised the issue of their notices after Zero Hour began.
The notices said the Prime Minister and Defence Minister had misled the House; that the notices of breach of privilege be accepted and referred to the privilege committee for further proceedings.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said members from the government side should also be allowed to speak.
BJP chief whip Anurag Thakur said Mr. Gandhi misled the House during the debate on the no-confidence motion.
