Second round medical counselling delayed

more-in

The delay in the allotment of the all-India quota medical and dental seats will hit students in the State. It has caused a delay in the second round of seat allotment process conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). The unfilled all-India quota seats will have to be transferred to the State only after which can counselling be conducted for them.

On Tuesday night, the KEA said candidates aspiring for medical and dental seats could prioritise options until Wednesday. However, sources in the Medical Education Department said the allotment would be done only after the all-India quota seats were returned by the Centre.

Fifteen percent of medical and dental seats in Karnataka are marked in the all-India quota, for which counselling is conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). All these will be allotted based on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) ranks.

“There was a delay in the counselling process conducted by DGHS as the process was halted when the Madurai Bench of the High Court ordered the Central Board of Secondary Education to grant 196 marks in the Tamil version of NEET 2018. The DGHS had allotted the seats in the first round after the Supreme Court stayed the Madurai Bench’s order,” said a source.

Engineering admissions

As the last date for completing engineering admissions is July 31, the KEA decided to go ahead with the engineering counselling for the second round. The seat matrix for the second round of engineering, agriculture and farm science courses will be displayed on Wednesday, while the seat allotment will be conducted on July 30.
