LUCKNOW: Prophecies by soothsayers and astrologers are not a guarantee of success, learnt a gang of thieves the hard way.
Busted by
Mahanagar police on Tuesday, the gang members used to lift bikes and cars only on Saturday, on the insistence of an astrologer. They had been assured that Saturday was “auspicious” for them.
However, their luck ran out in a few months and they fell into the police net.
According to the police, the three auto-lifters had stolen over 50 vehicles including SUVs and loaders. The police recovered 13 motorcycles they had hidden behind a mosque in Paper Mill Colony.
Those arrested were identified as Vipin Kumar of Itaunja, Santosh Kuamr of
Chhapra in
Bihar and Nikbul Husain of Gudamba. Mastermind Vipin had started the gang on the advice of an astrologer a few months ago.
“Kumar, a BCom graduate, was unemployed. Sometime ago, he met an astrologer who wished him a bright future if he commits thefts only on Saturday,” said the police.
SHO Mahanagar Vikas Pandey said the miscreants disclosed they used to change the number plates of the vehicles and sell them to customers in Bihar through a mediator.
