ROURKELA: A man and his son were electrocuted to death inside their ramshackle tin-roofed mud house along Vedvyas temple road under Brahmani Tarang (BT) police limits here in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

Sources said the walls and floor of the mud house were damp. An old GI wire was used to hang clothes, but it fell on Satyanarayan Sha (62) who was sleeping on a cot. He fell down on the wet floor and was electrocuted. Between 1.30 am and 2 am his daughter-in-law Moonmoon woke up to attend nature’s call and saw him lying on the floor.

She informed her husband Sanjay (30) who rushed to lift his father, but was electrocuted, sources said. The two were then rushed to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) but in vain. BT police station IIC Manas Swain said since the small room was damp, Satyanarayan died immediately, while his son succumbed at RGH shortly after arrival.

Locals demanded compensation for the victim’s family. Lathikata tehsildar Laxman Dalai also visited the spot and said the office of Panposh Sub-Collector has been informed to extend possible support to the victim family.

Meanwhile, police on Tuesday handed over the bodies to the next of kin of the deceased after autopsy and registered an unnatural death case.
