Maratha Kranti Morcha calls for bandh in Mumbai, Thane today

Mumbai: After a statewide bandh, the Maratha Kranti Morcha has called for Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane bandh on Wednesday. These districts were exempted from Tuesday’s bandh. Maratha Kranti Morcha called for a statewide bandh on Tuesday after the death of a young protester Kakasaheb Shinde, in Aurangabad on Monday. Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Raigad, Satara and Solapur were exempted from Tuesday’s bandh. 

In a meeting at Shivaji Mandir, the organisers of the Maratha Kranti Morcha announced that the Mumbai Metropolitan region including Thane, Raigad and Palghar District will be shut in protest of the death of Kakasaheb Shinde. 

“Schools, colleges, hospital and medical services and milk supply have been exempted from the bandh,” Virendra Pawar, Mumbai coordinator of the Maratha Kranti Morcha said after the meeting. 

“There will not be any violence in the bandh. The activists will request the people to keep shut their establishments,” he said. He appealed to people to support the bandh. 

Dhananjay Jogdand, coordinator for Thane district said, “It is the outbreak of sentiments of the Maratha youths. The government is labelling the Maratha youths as criminals. We are going to protest peacefully.” 

The Morcha organised ‘jal samadhi’ protest, where Kakasaheb Shinde (28) died during the protest after drowning in Godavari river at Gangapur in Aurangabad. In the last few days, protests have taken place in Buldhana, Akola, Parali and Washim.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief, Raj Thackeray cancelled his tour of Marathwada. His tour was scheduled for Beed district on Tuesday.
