A video clip of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa having attended a film awards function held in Chennai on July 6, 1980, when she was one of the busiest actors in the film industry, was played in the Madras High Court on Tuesday to disprove the claim of Bengaluru-based S. Amrutha of having been born to the actor on August 14, 1980.
Justice S. Vaidyanathan watched the video played to him by Advocate-General Vijay Narayan, who contended that there was absolutely no indication of the former Chief Minister being pregnant at that point of time and therefore it was purely unwarranted on the part of the petitioner to malign a deceased person through baseless claims.
However, on his part, senior counsel V. Prakash, representing the petitioner, contended that his client was willing to undergo any test to prove that Jayalalithaa was indeed her biological mother. He urged the court to direct the former Chief Minister’s niece J. Deepa to cooperate for a DNA test so that the truth could be brought to light.
After hearing both sides and observing that the right from the petitioner’s claim of being the biological daughter to the circumstances that led to the former Chief Minister’s death were questionable, the judge adjourned the case for further hearing to July 31.
