The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday announced that all 16.15 lakh voter-verifiable paper audit trails (VVPATs) for the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections "shall be delivered well within the time."

This came after there were reports suggesting that the EC is struggling to meet the deadline it committed to the Supreme Court for procuring VVPAT machines for next year's Lok Sabha elections.
"In order to meet requirement of VVPATs for 100 percent saturation of all polling stations for 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Commission placed an order of 16.15 lakh VVPATs. The Commission has been consistently and periodically reviewing the status of production and supply of VVPATs," the statement further read.
