Demons secure Brayshaw, Essendon re-sign Langford

Melbourne have re-signed young gun Angus Brayshaw to a four-year contract extension that will keep him at the AFL club until the end of the 2022 season, while Kyle Langford has signed a two-year extension with Essendon.

Melbourne football operations manager Josh Mahoney said the 22-year-old Brayshaw was an important part of the Demons' midfield.

"We now have all of our young midfielders signed for an extended period of time, which provides great stability for our group, and we can look forward to watching their development over the coming years," Mahoney said in a statement on Wednesday.

Langford is now locked in at Essendon until 2020.

“I’m really excited to continue at Essendon for the next two years. I think we have a really bright future, we are a really young group and we are heading in the right direction,” Langford said in a statement.

“I was always hoping to remain a Bomber – I was just trying to play the best footy I could play, prove myself as a player both on and off the field, and I knew the rest would take care of itself.

“Over the next two years my focus is on continuous improvement, I still have a lot to work on to become a consistent AFL midfielder but I am enjoying the challenge.”

Bombers coach John Worsfold said Langford would play in important role in the future the club is building towards.

“Kyle is now playing consistent AFL football and has demonstrated that he has the necessary skill set to be an outstanding long-term player for the club," he said.
