LUDHIANA: Accusing cops of not doing enough, the family of
Jagdeep Singh Rinkle is planning to stage a protest outside the office of
Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in Chandigarh on Wednesday. The family members have been demanding the arrest of councillor Gurdeep Singh Neetu, who has been booked for conspiracy in the Rinkle’s murder.
Neetu’s son Jatinder Singh Sunny, who was booked for murder, has already been arrested by the police. The family members have also been demanding action against inspector Gurwinder Singh for not acting on their complaint.
Mani Khehra, brother of the deceased, said that the accused while fleeing from the spot after thrashing his brother had issued death threats to him.
“The police are not doing their job efficiently to arrest the accused. Yesterday, we staged a protest near CM’s house in Patiala, but got no response from anyone. Now, we are planning to hold an intensified protest at CM’s Chandigarh office on Wednesday,” Khehra said.
Khehra alleged that he had demanded security from officers as he had got death threats from the absconding accused. “While fleeing, the accused had issued threats to me, but the police have given me no protection,” he said.
Rinkle was thrashed to death on July 19. The police have booked councillor’s son Jatinderpal Singh Sunny and his unidentified accomplices under sections 452 (house trespassing), 302 (murder), 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) and booked councillor Neetu under 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. Sunny was arrested on Sunday while the other accused are at large.
Rinkle’s body was not cremated on the fifth day too.
