HYDERABAD: Imagine a smart elevator which not only will take you to the floor you want to go without pressing any button but also club the groups or queues when you travel to 20th or 30th floor of the building without changing lifts at certain floors.

The smart elevators will talk to you and will have a self-maintenance system. Sounds like a sci-fi? “It’s going to be a reality in less than two years, right here in Hyderabad,” says Amit Gossain, MD, Kone India. The elevator and escalator company has recently tied up with IBM to bring IoT in elevator technology to make smart elevators. The company’s MD was in the city to give us a glimpse of the kind of technology we can expect in the near future.

He also announced the launch of Kone U Monospace and Minispace, two new designs inspired by ‘Navaratna’ the nine gems.  Amit explained: “As mentioned earlier these elevators have been designed on the ‘Navaratna’ concept, it provides you with the option of following your astrologer’s advice of preferring a particular gem. Imagine you had ruby as your lucky stone then you have an option to install the Ruby Elevator inspired by this Navartana concept.”

He also said the new range of U series is up to 35% more energy efficient than earlier elevators because of renewed Kone EcoDisc hoisting machine which is highly efficient drive and are with enhanced standby solutions.

The elevators are upgraded with New Motor Control System, a renewed braking system, redesigned hoisting system and improved car structure which ensures that the noise level both inside and outside the elevator cars are as low as possible, the ride is smooth with no vibration and the floor levelling is perfectly accurate. Earlier the elevators with such features were imported from China.
