Raipur-Vizag Expressway Proj under Bharatmala Project: Centre

The Raipur to Vishakhapatnam stretch of the proposed Expressway has been identified for development under Bharatmala project, the Central Government has informed.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has awarded the work of preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) from Kurud to Andhra Pradesh/Odisha Border  having length of 359 kms.

The work of DPR preparation  commenced on June 6, 2017.

It may be recalled that Chhattisgarh had been already inviting private investors to set up manufacturing clusters for taking advantage of five sea ports within its 600 km reach from the State.

With five ports Paradip and Dhamra in Odisha, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada and Machillipatnam in Andhra Pradesh, the opportunity of setting up of manufacturing clusters in Chhattisgarh is immense, officials informed.

The Bharatmala Pariyojana comprises of about 65000 km of Highways / Roads . Out of total length under Bharatmala Project, 24,800 km Highways along with 10,000 km residual NHDP stretches are to be constructed under Phase-I of Bharatmala Project over a period of 5 years i.e. from 2017-18 to 2021-22.
