HYDERABAD: A day after nine persons, including the bridegroom, were arrested for organising a show with Russian belly dancers at a walima (reception) at Bandlaguda in the Old City, the arrested persons were remanded in judicial custoday at Chanchalguda prison on Tuesday. Police are planning to take the accused into custody to probe into possible human trafficking angle.
Police arrested bridgegroom Yahya Bin Salam Bahamed, 37, a businessman and realtor from Barkas, his relative Abdullah Bin Mohammed Ilhej Bahamed, 42, from Barkas, Russian Ramesh Babu alias Somisetty Ramesh Babu, 50, the broker who supplied Russian dancers, Md Hamid, 53, event manager who organised the function, Jogi Venkatesh, 30, who supplied about 300 women for serving food at the function, Md Waseemuddin, 37, owner of Ahmed Sound System company that supplied music system, Syed Firasat Ali, 40, a businessman from Fateh Darwaza, Zahuruddin Mohammed Tahir, 59, manager of Noori Place Function Hall, and Md Amjad, 49, a private employee from Kishan Bagh.
During the intervening night of July 21 and 22, Yahya Bin Salam Bahamed's walima was held at Noori Place Function Hall at Bandlaguda, Chandrayangutta.
Several prominent politicians attended the function. After the VIPs left the place, the Russian were called to perform
belly dance. They performed for six songs and videos, recorded by the men present there, went viral on social media. Police registered a criminal case against the accused under various sections of the IPC. "We booked the accused, including the bridegroom, under Section 370 (buying or disposing any person as a slave) of the IPC. They were produced before court and sent to Chanchalguda prison," DCP, South Zone, V Satyanarayana said.
Ramesh Babu said he procured the women through one Md Zeb Chowdary of Meera Road, Mumbai. Police also issued charge memos to SI and patrolling staff.
