U.S. Releases $195 Million in Military Aid to Egypt

Washington withheld the funds last year over concerns about Cairo’s human-rights record and relationship with North Korea

CAIRO—The Trump administration released $195 million in military aid to Egypt, U.S. and Egyptian officials said Wednesday, allowing Cairo to access funds Washington withheld last year over concerns about the country’s human-rights record and relationship with North Korea.

A State Department spokesperson said the funds had been released in recognition of “steps Egypt has taken over the last year in response to specific U.S. concerns.”
