Youth held for assaulting cop, tearing his uniform

LUDHIANA: Police arrested a 23-year-old youth for assaulting an on-duty policeman on Ferozepur Road late on Monday night.
Jasdeep Singh, a resident of Thareeke village, not only thrashed assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Lakhvir Masih, but also tore his uniform.

In his police complaint, Masih, who is in charge of Raghunath Enclave police post, said, “I, along with a police team, had set up a checkpoint in Adarsh Colony on Ferozepur Road. We stopped an inebriated youth on suspicion for checking. But he started arguing with us. He then assaulted me and tore my uniform.”

Sarabha Nagar police reached the spot on being informed and overpowered the youth.

Investigating officer assistant sub-inspector Amarjeet Kumar said Singh, who works as a munshi with a lawyer, has been arrested under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) of the IPC.
