A day after former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda launched fourth phase of his ‘Jankranti Yatra’ with the promise of 50 percent cut in electricity tariffs, the ruling BJP launched a scathing attack on the senior Congress leader.

“Bhupinder Singh Hooda, former Chief Minister, had, during his ten-year tenure, not provided relief worth even one rupee to the electricity consumers,” alleged Rajiv Jain, media advisor to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal on Monday.

“Having increased the power rate from five per cent to 16 per cent at different times, Hooda is now fooling people by promising to cut down the existing rate to half. Due to incompetence, corruption and mismanagement of the previous State Government, power utilities were left in a bad shape. The BJP Government took the burden of Rs 26,000 crore to improve the situation, Jain said in a statement issued here.

The two-time former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had on Sunday in Tohana promised of 50 per cent cut in electricity tariff if the Congress returned to power in Haryana. The announcement was made within days of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s statement that his government is contemplating reduction in power tariff.
