Dharwad: Agents at the APMC in Dharwad are illegally collecting a commission of 8-10% from farmers and yet APMC officials are begging the agents to reduce the commission, alleged BJP
Raitha Morcha leader
Aravind Eganagoudar.
Addressing a farmers’
rally taken out by the BJP Raitha Morcha at the DC office here on Monday, Eganagoudar said farmers were getting very minimal amount for their produce.
“Taking advantage of the loopholes in the system, agents are not issuing authorized receipts but are giving white chits with an amount written on it. When we question, APMC members insist on a written complaint. However, they have not acted over hundreds of complaints submitted by farmers. They should cancel the license of such agents,” he urged.
BJP district president Nagesh Kalburgi alleged that bank officials are adjusting crop insurance amount with farmers’ loans. BJP farmer leaders Iranna Hapali, Prakash Shringeri and others were present.
